The cost of doing business within the Kenya informal sector is an important discussion to have. This is because the Kenya informal sector is quite large. The costs include, finance costs, regulatory costs and governance costs. Of note, the situation in Kenya is quite unique in the continent especially as regards capital raising. Unlike most countries, there is no development bank that focuses on lending to the informal sector. Rather, the in Kenya commercial banks lend to the informal sector on commercial terms including requirement for collateral.
